Bad Breath in Dogs
Bad breath in dogs is not just a cosmetic or social problem. It can be caused due to a buildup of tartar on his teeth, also the beginning of gum disease could play a part if the tartar has been building up, and been left untreated. It can be very offensive and in serious cases it is very difficult to be close to your dog. Occasionally tooth extraction is required, as bad breath is often accompanied by inflammation and decay of the gums, which can cause their teeth to become loose.
Prevention is always better than looking for a Cure. Brushing your dog's teeth may seem absurd, you brush your own teeth to prevent tartar build up likewise you should do the same for your dog, there are products on the market especially for your dog or cats teeth, you can get them in a variety of flavors, if you start this routine when your dog is young they will learn to tolerate it and you will often avoid bad breath. Always keep a close eye on your dogs teeth and gums.
If there is no way on this earth you can manage to get close enough to your dog with a toothbrush you could always take him to your veterinarian to have their teeth cleaned under anesthetic to remove heavy tartar. This procedure is expensive it can also be risky in older animals, remember it can prevent serious and possibly life-threatening illness later on.
